David W. Curtis (1938 -1999)
Founder
David W. Curtis was born in Montpelier, Vermont on April 15, 1938. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1961 and Boston College Law School in 1963. He practiced law in Burlington, Vermont for a large part of his life. From 1977-1980 David served as the Deputy Defender General for the State of Vermont. From 1985-1987 David served as the Defender General for the State of Vermont. In 1987, David returned to private practice and in 1989 he co-founded Hoff, Curtis, Pacht, Cassidy & Frame. As a native Vermonter, David was imbued with a Vermonter’s sense of community and civic responsibility. Those qualities exhibited themselves in many of David’s undertakings. David was a founding member of the Vermont Women’s Health Center, and served on the Board of Trustees of the American Civil Liberties of Vermont. David was also active as a board member on the AIDS Action Council in Washington, D.C. David was also active in politics serving as Chairman of the Vermont Democratic Party and as a Democratic National Committeeman. Through out his life David was an unwavering advocate for the advancement of civil rights in Vermont. David’s civic spirit and determination is alive today in the firm he helped to found.
